Sonali Shah is a highly experienced broadcaster and journalist, known for bringing warmth, authority and genuine curiosity to everything from live national events and international reporting to homes, travel, culture and family life.
Currently presenting Escape to the Country on BBC One and Sunday Breakfast on Magic Radio, Sonali is also a regular reporter for Lorraine and part of the BBC’s live events team. She recently appeared in BBC Two’s Pilgrimage, combining her natural openness with the journalistic instinct to draw thoughtful and revealing stories from the people around her.
Sonali has built a rare breadth of experience across BBC, ITV and Channel 4. She has presented editions of ITV’s Tonight, appeared regularly on Steph’s Packed Lunch, presented Crimewatch and contributed to Channel 4’s coverage of Crufts. An accomplished live broadcaster, she has reported from the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, the Cricket World Cup and Wimbledon, as well as some of Britain’s biggest national occasions, including Trooping the Colour, the Royal Wedding, the London Marathon, the Boat Race, the Lord Mayor’s Show and the Epsom Derby.
Her five years presenting the BAFTA-winning Newsround took her around the world, from the Beijing Olympics to special reports from Haiti and Afghanistan. Her film Growing Up in a Warzone was named Best Children’s Programme at the AIB Awards.
